In the world of the Legacy Virus, Cypher is infected with the virus and the sentient computer Warlock bonds himself to Cypher’s body in an attempt to save his life. Instead, the virus mutates with Warlock’s bio-circuitry and evolves. Those who get infected with this evolved virus becomes a new race called the Vi-locks and are bent on world domination.

As member of the Avengers, Mary Jane Watson/Spider-Woman was part of an unsuccessful infiltration of the Vi-Lock Mainframe. The Avengers battled with the Exiles to retrieve Cypher from the Vi-Locks and attempted to create a vaccine. During the Exiles visit to this realm, M.J. and Sunfire shared a romantic relationship.
