Julia Carpenter (Spider-Woman 2)

Julia Carpenter worked for a government agency called the Commission that had a secret subversive group called the Conclave. Without suspicion, Julia agrees to be experimented on in hopes of gaining superhuman powers. Julia developed and assumed the costumed identity of Spider-Woman, performing crime-fighting activities for the Commission.

Julia Carpenter/Spider-Woman first appeared in the Secret Wars, a war in another planet created by the alien Beyonder. Julia joined the team of superhuman champions from earth to become part of Battleworld. After returning to earth, Julia joined the Freedom Force (a US Federal Government team of superhumans), the West Coast Avengers, and then Force Works (a team of adventurers).

Eventually Julia ended up returning to the West Coast. There she encountered and was attacked by a costumed villain calling herself Spider-Woman (Charlotte Witter, SW4), thus stealing her powers. Julia (SW2) ended up joining Jessica Drew (SW1), Madame Web, Mattie Franklin (SW3) to track down SW4 in New York. Eventually Mattie Franklin ended up stealing back to powers of all the Spider-Women, leaving Julia powerless. Julia then returned to the West Coast.

Charlotte Witter (Spider-Woman 4)

Charlotte Witter (Madame Webb’s granddaughter) is a product of Dr, Octopus’ genetic manipulation, a mutated human/spider hybrid. Charlotte was give the ability to absorb the powers of the previous Spider-Women and manage to steal the powers of Jessica Drew, Julia Carpenter, Mattie Franklin and Madame Web in return to destroy Spider-Man. But the previous Spider-Women were able to track down Charlotte and in the end Mattie was able to steal her powers back that included the powers of all the Spider-Women, leaving Charlotte powerless. But Charlotte’s powers came back but when she encountered Mattie the last time, Charlotte was defeated and institutionalized.

In the world of the Legacy Virus, Cypher is infected with the virus and the sentient computer Warlock bonds himself to Cypher’s body in an attempt to save his life. Instead, the virus mutates with Warlock’s bio-circuitry and evolves. Those who get infected with this evolved virus becomes a new race called the Vi-locks and are bent on world domination.

As member of the Avengers, Mary Jane Watson/Spider-Woman was part of an unsuccessful infiltration of the Vi-Lock Mainframe. The Avengers battled with the Exiles to retrieve Cypher from the Vi-Locks and attempted to create a vaccine. During the Exiles visit to this realm, M.J. and Sunfire shared a romantic relationship.

In this world of Iron Mornarchy, Tony Stark/Iron Man is President and becomes insatiated with his accomplishment takes over Earth and now wants intergalactic conquest. To do this, he would need to breed an army of super-beings. For this reason, he intended to capture the Inhumans, a race of genetically superior humans who could be the breeding stock for his future warriors. To battle and capture the Inhumans, Iron Man gathered dozens of super-powered mercenaries (one being Julia Carpenter/Spider-Woman) along with the Weapon X. Even with the combined forces, the Inhumans sacrificed themselves because they did not want to become enslaved and experimented on by Iron Man. Later on, Susan Richards, Queen of the Inhumans, assassinates Stark and reveals that she had cloaked 300 Inhumans during the battle to overtake Attilan. Decades later, the horrors that Tony Stark had perpetrated would come to light and the Inhuman refugees would later exact revenge for their civiliation.

In the world of Zero Tolerance of Home Superiors and Super Beings, Spider-Woman/Jessica Drew, along with Cain Marko, Johnny Storm, Jonathan Starsmore, and Domino are freed from a maximum security facility by Charles Xavier and recruited to form the X-Men--a band of captives who are bitter and have a vehement hatred of humankind. The X-Men try to destroy the World’s economy by taking down the New York Stock Exchanged only to be stopped by the Exiles.

Arachne/Spider-Woman (Timeline: Earth-79101)

In this world, Arachne stands trial for the murder of Nick Fury, SHIELD Director. Count Otto Vermis testifies that Arachne can not be tried because she is not human but a mutated spider. Shocked and angered, Arachne grabs Vermis and claims he knows more than what he was saying and throws him at the SHIELD agents, knocking them down as she escapes out the window.

Six months later, Arachne mets up with Andre, an informant. He tells her that he has no new information concerning Wundagore Mountain or the people who had once lived there. Andre secretly pulls a gun and Arachne defends herself and shoots him with her venom blast. She says to herself that even though she has to hire criminals to discover the truth about her past, she does not trust them. She knows that she has to leave Paris soon as SHIELD would soon be after her. She flies off into the moonlight.
